Multiple people were arrested after climate protestors blocked Vancouver’s Cambie Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Vancouver Police said six people were arrested for refusing to end the blockade, which shut down traffic on the bridge in both directions and caused “major disruptions.”

Extinction Rebellion’s Vancouver chapter organized the protest to demand an end to old-growth logging. According to police, approximately 150 people were in attendance.

Demonstrators briefly occupied the intersection of Cambie Street and West Broadway before making their way onto Cambie Bridge.

Police said officers allowed the group to “peacefully assemble and express themselves” before asking them to step aside so the bridge could reopen.

Four women and two men who refused to move were arrested for mischief and intimidation by blocking the roadway.

They were taken to jail but released after agreeing to attend court at a later date, police said.
