Richmond travel agency shut down after scamming customers

Consumer Protection BC is warning travelers who booked with Sinorama Travel Vancouver.

The Richmond travel agency had its licence suspended and bank accounts frozen by the Consumer Protection Agency.

“We did this out of concern that they didn’t have enough money to continue operating as a travel agency,” said Consumer Protection BC.  “We believe that travellers may be at risk of not getting the travel they paid for.”

During the suspension, Sinorama Travel has been ordered to cease the “designated activity of travel agent by selling or otherwise providing travel services.”

Consumer Protection BC says that the following customers could be at risk of not receiving their travel services:

  • Those who booked through Sinorama Travel Vancouver Inc. located in Richmond BC
  • Those who booked online through Sinorama and live in a Western province of Canada or the Western US (Colorado & West)
  • Travel agents who bought or arranged for the supply of travel services through Quebec’s wholesaler, Sinorama Vacances Inc.

The potential impact on travellers is still being monitored. Any updates and additional information can be found on the Consumer Protection BC website.
