An unassuming cafe in a small shopping complex in Burnaby might be easy to miss, but it’s quickly becoming a neighbourhood hotspot for its fresh and delicious pastries, sandwiches, and beverages.

Season’s Apple Cafe is a family-run bakery and cafe that has recently come under new ownership.

Jasmin Moon runs the front counter crafting delicious hot and cold coffees and other non-caffeinated drinks while her mom, Olivia Han, whips up delectable housemade sandwiches.

Jasmin’s dad, Paul, is usually in the back of the small shop kneading dough for loaves of fresh bread or perfecting a batch of pastries.

While the cafe has been located in the east Burnaby complex for many years, Moon and her parents took over in December. They revamped the space and the menu, which offers a variety of breakfast and bagel sandwiches, a soup of the day, and sweet and savoury baked goods.

All the baked goods on the shelves — from the croissants and bagels to the cinnamon buns — are carefully crafted with Paul’s expertise. When Daily Hive visited, he had just finished baking a few loaves of fresh bread.

Jasmin told Daily Hive that her father gained experience working as a baker for other shops and cafes around Metro Vancouver but had never had his own bakery before.

During our visit, we tried the Heaven Bagel Sandwich and a matcha latte.

The sandwich came chock-full of fresh veggies, including avocado, shredded beets, and carrots, which were complimented perfectly by Season Apple’s housemade sundried tomato cream cheese.

Speaking of the cream cheese, that’s made fresh too. When you walk into the cafe, you’ll spot a few giant tubs of various offerings, including green onion, blueberry, and sundried tomato.

The matcha latte was made to perfection; it wasn’t too sweet or overpowering. Jasmin has mastered latte art, as the beverages came with a very adorable teddy bear on top that made it almost too cute to drink.

Season’s Apple Cafe is definitely gaining traction with locals in the area, as the cozy space is a great place for a quick catchup or a study session.

What makes a visit to this hidden gem even more worthwhile is that it’s a quintessential mom-and-pop shop. At a time when many Metro Vancouver restaurants are closing their doors, it’s nice to see locals supporting a family-run cafe.
