Award-winning Vancouver chef to open bold new Northeastern Thai restaurant

Fans of Chef Angus An, buckle up! The award-winning culinary tastemaker is gearing up to launch something new in Vancouver.
This time, An, who is behind much-loved local staples Maenam, Fat Mao, Sen Pad Thai, and Longtail Kitchen, has secured a location in the city’s West End for a fresh concept focused on bold Northeastern Thai flavours called Sainam.
Located at 1235 Davie Street, the former location of Davie Dosa Company, Sainam will aim to transport patrons to Thailand’s Isaan region.

Sainam’s head chef, Poom Sikarin Sirisupanon, is a native of Khon Kaen in the Isaan region and will be cooking up dishes such as som tum (papaya salad) and Wechanburi-style gai yang (grilled chicken).
The 1,200 sq ft space will offer seats for 40 and promises “a playful and colourful energy that reflects the spirit of Isaan,” thanks to architect Scott Cohen, who worked on some of An’s other projects, such as Maenam.
“My home in Thailand is only about 1.5 hours from Isaan. I visit the cities there often, most
recently Korat, Wechanburi, and Khao Yai this past December. I can’t wait to share our love
for Isaan with everyone very soon at Sainam,” explains An.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of the food from the Isaan region – it’s so distinct from other
parts of Thailand, with its robust flavours and rustic styles.”
Sainam is slated to open this spring. We’ll keep you posted on an opening date. Stay tuned.
