Commercial Drive to reopen after rope rescue near SkyTrain station

Commercial Drive will reopen to traffic just before 5 pm after firefighters performed a rope rescue to bring a person back to street level from the bush near the SkyTrain tracks.

Commercial was closed between Broadway and Grandview Highway for about an hour while Vancouver Fire Rescue Services’ special ops team rappelled off the bridge to retrieve the patient.

They brought the person back up to the street, and handed them over to paramedics who were waiting to assess their injuries.

Firefighters didn’t say what happened to the person or how they ended up below the Commercial Street bridge.
