The City of Richmond is considering reducing vehicle access to parts of Steveston Village to enable street space to be temporarily used to support the reopening of businesses.

The proposed changes include up to a three-block closure to all vehicles on Moncton Street between No. 1 Road and Third Avenue.

Other changes include a conversion of Bayview Street into a one-way westbound direction between No. 1 Road and 3rd Avenue, and a conversion of 1st Avenue and 3rd Avenue into a one-way westbound direction between Bayview Street and Moncton Street.

These closures and changes are intended to allow road space to be used for queuing, outdoor retail, and restaurant patios through the end of September. It would particularly support restaurants, which are mandated to decrease their indoor seating capacities by 50% to support physical distancing.

Moreover, the changes would create more space for pedestrians.

The municipal government is in the process of consulting with businesses and the general public.
