A black Kia SUV drove through the entrance doors of a mall in Richmond in a suspected nighttime break-and-enter attempt.

The alleged offence took place on the 5300 block of No. 3 Road in Richmond. While Richmond RCMP couldn’t disclose the name of the mall, the only shopping centre in the vicinity is Landsdowne Mall.

According to a Richmond RCMP media release, the “brazen” incident took place on Nov. 5 at around 3:15 a.m.

Someone reported that the black Kia SUV drove through the entrance doors to try to gain access to a jewellery store. RCMP says the suspects weren’t able to get inside the jewellery store and then fled the shopping mall in the SUV.

Richmond RCMP Corporal Adriana O’Malley said that there was a restaurant that was open with customers inside at the time of the alleged offence.

“Fortunately, no one was injured, but the actions of these individuals put people at risk, which is why we are asking anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed this or have dash cam footage to contact us,” O’Malley added.

The restaurant may have been No. 9 Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant located at Landsdowne Mall, which is open 24 hours.

The Richmond RCMP Property Crime Unit has now taken charge of the investigation, which is ongoing.

Richmond RCMP is hoping witnesses come forward with more information and is “requesting any witnesses to this incident to contact the lead investigator, Constable Vincent Lee at vincent.lee@rcmp-grc.gc.ca or at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2025-35377.”
