16-year-old cyclist seriously hurt after collision with vehicle in Richmond

A 16-year-old cyclist was rushed to hospital after a collision with a vehicle in Richmond yesterday afternoon.

According to police, the incident took place just before 4:30 pm, in the area of Blundell Road and St. Albans Road.

The cyclist, a Richmond resident, suffered critical injuries as a result of the incident. Police said the female driver of the vehicle involved – an early 2000-era Hyundai – remained in the scene and has been cooperative with police.

Now, the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit is leading this investigation with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.

Investigators are also asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured dashcam footage of the incident to contact them.

Police said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision.

They added that the cyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
