Police are on the scene of a two-vehicle collision that took place in Burnaby earlier this afternoon.
According to a Tweet from the Burnaby RCMP, the accident occurred near the area of Lougheed Highway and Brighton Avenue.
It’s not entirely clear what took place but police say that “it appears as though an elderly man suffered a medical incident,” which “potentially led to the collision.”
The elderly driver has since been taken to the hospital; fortunately, the driver of the other vehicle wasn’t hurt.

Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team are currently on the scene, however, and say that there are lane closures currently in place. Drivers are being asked to use an alternate route over the next few hours, which will likely affect rush hour traffic.
