Western Canada's first Ramadan Fest brings late-night feasts to Surrey next week

Today marks the beginning of Ramadan, a holy month in the lunar Islamic calendar and one in which practicing Muslims abstain from food and drinks from sunrise (Emsâk) to after sunset (Eftâr).
A brand new festival is debuting in Surrey next week that will help the community celebrate while offering delicious food, cultural activities, and more late into the night.
Ramadan Fest B.C. is happening at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds from Wednesday, March 5, to Sunday, March 9. And festival organizers bill it as Surrey’s biggest late late night market.

“There will be lots of food options, Ramadan lights, and a cultural market bazaar. There will also be lots of ways for people to learn about Ramadan as well,” Surrey’s Salaam Events told Daily Hive.
Ramadan Fest B.C. runs from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m., with two time slots each evening: Iftar Timing for entry between 4 and 9 p.m., and Suhoor Timing for entry between 9:30 p.m. and 3 a.m.
No matter which one you choose, you’re in for a good time and good food.

Salaam Events are also the minds behind the popular B.C. Halal Festival at Holland Park in the city each year.
“Ramadan Fest is like a Christmas Market but for Ramadan,” added Yosof Hakimi, managing partner of Salaam Events. “Ramadan Festivals like this are super popular in the Middle East, and we wanted to bring it here to Surrey.
“We have lots of festive lights, delicious food vendors and over 100+ market vendors with items like clothes, jewellery, and packed goods. We are expecting over 30,000 attendees across the five nights.”

Cloverdale Agriplex
Ramadan Fest B.C. will be held in the Cloverdale Fairground’s Agriplex building, along with two large heated outdoor tents.
One of the tents will be a dining space, and the other tent will spotlight information on Ramadan.
The ninth month of the moon-based Islamic calendar is considered holy. Many Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to dusk — not eating or drinking anything during that time — and focus on prayer, forgiveness, kindness, community, and charity.
