Where are Mulder and Scully when you need them? An eerie black ring was spotted over the sky in Salaberry-De-Valleyfield over the weekend as mysterious footage was uploaded to social media.
What’s even weirder, shortly after appearing, more than 3,500 residents in the city were left without power.

Is it time for us to start wearing aluminum-foil hats? Is it the aftermath of a fireworks display? A weird formation of thousand of tiny insects?

Unfortunately (or fortunately), it’s none of the above. According to Valleyfield city officials, it was the result of an electrical transformer explosion. A gas ring formed in the sky and black smoke caused the strange ring to appear before slowly disappearing.
At least, that’s what they want us to think…
