One of the most popular off-ice pieces of content among NHL fans is coming back for a second run.

Today, the NHL and Prime Video announced the cast list for the popular Faceoff: Inside the NHL docuseries, recorded throughout the 2024-25 campaign.

The series is once again being produced alongside Box to Box Productions, who are perhaps best known for their work on the F1-based Drive To Survive series, which helped catapult that sport into further worldwide popularity.

Here’s a look at the 13 players who the series will focus on this year:

  • Quinton Byfield (Los Angeles Kings)
  • Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins)
  • Thomas Harley (Dallas Stars)
  • Wyatt Johnston (Dallas Stars)
  • Anze Kopitar (Los Angeles Kings)
  • Marc-Andre Fleury (Minnesota Wild)
  • Mikko Rantanen (Dallas Stars)
  • Matthew Tkachuk (Florida Panthers)
  • William Nylander (Toronto Maple Leafs)
  • Seth Jarvis (Carolina Hurricanes)
  • Sean Monahan (Columbus Blue Jackets)
  • Zach Werenski (Columbus Blue Jackets)
  • Brady Tkachuk (Ottawa Senators)

For the first time, the series will also go behind the scenes of an executive’s life, as the show will also focus on former Leafs president Brendan Shanahan.

Of the 13 players, 11 come from American markets, a year after players on three Canadian teams — Nylander, Quinn Hughes, and Connor McDavid — made up three of the 10 players profiled.

Nylander and Matthew Tkachuk are the lone returning players from the first season. The series will no doubt be an emotional one, particularly with the two Columbus players documenting the devastating loss of Johnny Gaudreau and its impact on the Blue Jackets.

“From the global stage of the 4 Nations Face-Off to the pressure-packed life of a team president, and the heartbreak of a team dealing with devastating loss, it’s raw and real. You will truly go inside the NHL,” NHL president of content and events Steve Mayer said in a release.

The series is expected to be released later this year. Also returning for a second season is Prime’s Monday Night Hockey broadcasts, with exclusive matchups each week throughout the NHL season.

“Prime Video has become one of Canada’s premier destinations for sports content from docuseries to live events,” said Mark Shopiro, head of Prime Video Canada.

“Along with our expanding portfolio that includes women’s sports leagues and our upcoming NBA coverage in 2026, as well as add-on subscriptions to services like TSN and Sportsnet, we’re creating a comprehensive sports destination. This approach reflects our dedication to serving all sports fans across Canada with the content they love, available all in one place.”
