BC Hydro is warning customers of a planned power outage that’s taking place today on Cambie Street.
The outage will take place from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and will affect approximately 400 customers, 80% of which are residential.
The work will take place on the east side of Cambie from 16th to 23rd and is required to complete a necessary pole replacement.
According to BC Hydro, the pole is 66-years-old and has a high risk of failure.
“The job requires 360 degrees of lighting to do it safely. Due to having dozens of electrical lines and a very tight clearance, it would be unsafe to do it overnight,” said a spokesperson for BC Hydro.
Since the majority of affected customers are residential, BC Hydro decided to perform the task during working hours. Customers, in this case, were also given a three weeks notice ahead of time.
Poor weather can also have an effect on how quickly the job is completed, although crews are expecting clear skies and for the job to be completed within eight hours.
