A Metro Vancouver man was the victim of an alleged assault after observing a group of youths jaywalking through traffic in Port Coquitlam.
According to Coquitlam RCMP, the force is seeking either witnesses or dash cam footage after an alleged assault with a weapon at Shaughnessy Street and Lougheed Highway in Port Coquitlam.
Coquitlam RCMP received a report about the alleged assault on May 2.
According to the victim’s account to Coquitlam RCMP, he was walking near the intersection when he saw a group of young people allegedly jaywalking through traffic.
He then chose to confront the group about their behaviour.
In response, one of them challenged the man to a fight, and then a second member of the group allegedly sprayed the man in the face with a “noxious substance.”
After the altercation, Coquitlam RCMP said that the five group members ran away from the area.
While the victim told RCMP that the incident took place at around 9 p.m., he wasn’t able to report it to police until closer to 9:30 p.m.
“The victim advised the intersection was busy at the time, but no one stopped,” RCMP said.
Coquitlam RCMP is hoping anyone who was in the area between 8:50 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. on May 2, who may have witnessed the incident, will contact Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550, quoting file number 2026-10871.
That intersection is a very busy one, with many prominent businesses nearby, including restaurants like Earls in the Shaughnessy Station complex, and another strip mall just across the street from it.
