Someone stole Vancouver's movie popcorn mascot

The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (DVBIA) is asking for the public’s help in finding its popular mascot and beacon of summer in the city, Poppy.

The smiling, life-sized striped popcorn bag is the mascot for the Downtown Vancouver BIA’s annual summer movie nights series.

A DVBIA spokesperson told Daily Hive Poppy was first introduced last summer and was “a huge hit with movie attendees, and very playful and interactive.”

The spokesperson said the mascot costume comes in a large red carrying case (“kind of like a big square duffel bag”) and was stolen – along with several other items – from a downtown storage facility site.”

The DVBIA said it has opened a file with the VPD and is encouraging people to keep an eye out for it, as well, noting that a “small reward” is being offered for the safe return of Poppy.
