UPDATE: evacuation notice due to gas leak ended in Surrey ended

UPDATE: As of 11:30 am Surrey RCMP say that the evacuation notice in the area of 64 Avenue and 120 Street has ended.

“ALL CLEAR. Emergency services have dealt with the gas leak and blocked off areas have been reopened. Thank you for your cooperation” said Surrey RCMP on Twitter.

Surrey RCMP are evacuating homes and businesses and are asking residents to avoid the area of 64 Avenue and Scott Road in Surrey Wednesday morning due to a gas leak

RCMP will be evacuating the area surrounding the gas leak, which police say may have originated from a restaurant in the area.

“At approximately 1000 am this morning, Emergency Services responded to a gas leak which may have originated from a restaurant in the area. No cause is determined at this time,” said Surrey RCMP in a release.

Police are urging the public to avoid the area, and surrounding roads in the area will be closed until further notice.

Drivers are asked to avoid 64 Avenue Eastbound, and between 120 and 121 street.

Police say an update will be provided when more information is available.
