After the Wooden Roller Coaster stopped on the track, riders were left wondering what happened. Mr. Chan told Daily Hive that on Thursday, July 20, he was in line for a second ride on the Wooden Roller Coaster at Playland when he saw it suddenly stop.
“We were unsure what happened… the first row was off the track,” said Chan. “We were unsure if anyone was injured,” he said. Playland staff told Chan and others that the coaster was closed.
“We are uncertain if it will reopen in the coming days and whether this ride will still operate safely,” said Chan, who captured a video after the announcement of the ride’s closure.

According to Playland, there were no injuries reported and the train simply stopped. It was not in danger of going off the tracks. The coaster stopped at the start of the first hill with 14 passengers on the train at around 4 pm.
“At this time Playland’s ride maintenance team is assessing the reason for the stoppage, but it is important to note that the ride came to a stop as it is designed to do, and staff did exactly what they are trained to do,” said a rep, who said the coaster is still closed as the team assesses any maintenance requirements.
“The passengers on the train were safely escorted to the station via the ride’s catwalk and returned to the park,” said a rep.
“The ride was fun, and I’m still young, so I am willing to ride a few more times,” said Chan. “But safety first.”
This summer the roller coaster is planning to double its capacity after an extensive refurbishment post-COVID-19. The exhilarating 65-year-old ride is the last of its kind.
