Surrey RCMP is investigating a motor collision in the Whalley area which resulted in a pedestrian death.
Mounties explain that on Tuesday around 4 pm, officers responded to reports of a fatal crash in the westbound lanes of Highway 17.
“A Ford pickup was westbound on Highway 17, when a pedestrian attempted to cross the highway, northbound, between intersections,” RCMP explained in a statement. “The vehicle struck the pedestrian causing catastrophic injury.”
The man, who police believe was in his 30’s, was transported to hospital in critical condition and tragically succumbed to his injuries.
“The driver of the pickup remained on scene and is cooperating with police,” RCMP added.
“At this time alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision, and the investigation into the incident is still in the very early stages.”
