Pedestrian suffers 'life-threatening injuries' after being hit by TransLink bus

A 33-year-old man has suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a TransLink bus.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening, at approximately 5:45 pm, on Hastings Street near Carleton Avenue.

Burnaby RCMP received a report that two males were involved in an altercation near the intersection. The 33-year-old entered the roadway and was struck by a bus.

Police say that how the male entered the roadway is still under investigation — it’s unclear whether it was a result of the altercation or not.

The man has since been rushed to the hospital.

Two men were arrested at the scene and one of them, a 62-year-old male, remains in custody.

No charges have been laid at this time and police are trying to determine whether the males knew each other. The TransLink bus driver is not under investigation in this incident.

Police remain on scene today and traffic delays will take place in the area throughout the afternoon.
