This outdoor festival will turn Yaletown into a winter wonderland

Nov 20 2019, 6:31 pm

When the most magical season of the year is in full swing, we fall in love with Vancouver a little more.

On Saturday, November 30, you can, too, at the eighth-annual winter festival that’s set to transform Yaletown into a winter wonderland. The Yaletown Business Improvement Association‘s (YBIA) eighth annual CandyTown is the only free event of its kind in the downtown core, and there are plenty of reasons to visit.

Everywhere from Mainland to Hamilton Street and a portion of Davie Street will be decked out with lights, candy canes, and, wait for it… costumed characters parading through the streets (some on stilts!), giving you plenty of photo opportunities.

CandyTown is happening for one day only, so you’ll undoubtedly have FOMO if you miss it. In 2018, an estimated 15,000 people came out to celebrate the festivities in the heart of downtown. And to celebrate this year’s event, we’re giving away a luxury staycation package — simply enter the contest below!

There’s something for everyone at CandyTown. Haven’t started your holiday shopping yet? No problem. If you wait until November 30, you can purchase all of your gifts on one day at the All I Want for Christmas Gift Market where local merchants will be selling artisanal gifts.

Let’s not forget about the selection of delicious eats on offer. We’re talking about sugar-dusted, sweet holiday treats and fresh snacks straight from local food trucks. The self-guided 19+ Cocktail Tour is back this year if you’re feeling thirsty. Plus, you’ll find a special CandyTown concoction inspired by the event at the participating restaurants, only available in Yaletown!

New to CandyTown this year is the thrilling, adult-focused Winter is Coming attraction featuring live ice carving and swordplay demonstrations by Academie Duello. And as if that wasn’t exciting enough, there’s also going to be a winter throne for you to take photos with.

No winter wonderland would truly be complete without horse-drawn carriage rides. At CandyTown, join a ride by donation (which goes towards BC Children’s Hospital, Starlight Children’s Foundation, and the Rotary Club) at the meeting spot in front of the Roundhouse Community Centre. If you’re bringing the little ones along, Santa and the Ice Queen will be waiting to greet them!

To keep you celebrating, live music and carolling will bring about those Yuletide vibes. We can’t imagine anything better! For more information, before you visit, check out the YBIA website.
