Well, this isn’t something you see every day – a pod of orcas getting a belly rub on a beach.

Sechelt resident Martin Michael filmed the group of killer whales at nearby Golden Mile Beach, on BC’s Sunshine Coast, this past weekend.

He told Daily Hive they were rubbing their stomachs on the stones at the beach, just 15 feet away at times.

“[I was] just in awe of the majesty of nature,” said Michael. “They exhaled all their lung capacity to come in this close to us.”

Michael said the orcas also passed by last July, stone rubbing and eating local herring.

“[I am] so fortunate to live on Golden Mile Beach, [it’s] perfect for whale watching,” he said.

“I just feel blessed and privileged to live here and enjoy orcas, grey whales, sea lions, seals, and this morning we had 42 eagles in the trees!”
