Police are investigating the death of a man following a fight in Burnaby on Tuesday evening.

In a release, Burnaby RCMP said the incident took place just before 9 pm in the 6500 block of Telford Avenue.

Responding to reports of a fight in progress, officers arrived at the scene to find a man in medical distress.

“Despite all attempts to revive the individual they succumbed to their injuries,” said Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Daniela Panesar

While it is still early in the investigation, police don’t believe the attack was random.

Now, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in to investigate with the Burnaby RCMP and the area surrounding the scene will be “cordoned off for a significant amount of time.”

Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase and said no further information will be provided at this time.
