The 2028 Olympics are just over three years away, but Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh is staying in top form.

After an incredible showing at the Paris 2024 Olympics last year that saw her take home three gold medals and a silver, the 18-year-old McIntosh is continuing to add to her accolades. She was competing at the Canadian Swimming Trials on Saturday, where she captured yet another world record in the 400-metre freestyle.

McIntosh posted a time of 3:54.18, which shattered the previous record of 3:55.38, held by Australian Ariarne Titmus, by more than a second.

This is the second time that the Canadian has held this record. McIntosh previously held the world-best time in the 400-metre freestyle after posting a time of 3:56.08 at the 2023 Canadian Swimming Trials. That was short-lived, however, as Titmus bested that time just under four months later.

McIntosh now holds a total of five world records and 11 Canadian swimming records, cementing her as one of the nation’s most talented swimmers of all time, all before her 19th birthday, which lands on August 18.

Those world records include:

  • 3.54.18 in 400-metre freestyle, long course (set on June 7, 2025)
  • 4:24.38 in 4oo-metre individual medley, long course (set on May 16, 2024)
  • 3:50.25 in 400-metre freestyle, short course (set on Dec. 10, 2024)
  • 1:59.32 in 200-metre butterfly (set on Dec. 12, 2024)
  • 4:15.48 400-metre individual medley, short course (set on Dec. 14, 2024)

On top of all that, McIntosh also holds two Olympic records.

She will get more opportunities to make her mark before the end of the summer. McIntosh is expected to compete in the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore this July and August.
