Edmonton Oilers win ridiculous Stanley Cup Final game in overtime

The Edmonton Oilers definitely don’t appear to have any interest in making things easy for themselves.

In Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers, an unbelievable contest ended in overtime with a 5-4 win for the Oilers with a cheeky goal from Leon Draisaitl.

Edmonton appeared to have the win in their grasp late in the game, before the Panthers tied things up with the net pulled and just under 20 seconds left in the third period.

Before Reinhart’s tying goal, Edmonton’s Jake Walman appeared to the hero of the evening, potting up a third period goal on a slapshot from the faceoff circle to complete an improbable comeback.

The Oilers had a real rough start to the game, falling behind 3-0 in the first period. Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk scored a pair of first-period power play goals, before Anton Lundell added the Panthers’ third of the night.

But Edmonton’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins began a comeback attempt, slotting the Oilers’ first of the evening. Within the span of 2:18 midway through the second, Darnell Nurse and Vasily Podkolzin completed Edmonton’s attempt to tie the score.

It was the third of four games in the series to head to overtime.

The result on the evening now sets the series score to two games apiece, with the championship now a de facto best-of-three series. At the very least, each team will have one more home game remaining to decide this year’s champion.

The game took place in front of two of the most famous people in North America, with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce both in attendance. The duo even linked up with Wayne Gretzky at one point, with the former Oilers great being on the TNT broadcast for the series.

The two teams head back to Edmonton for their next contest on Saturday evening, when they face off in Game 5 of the series.
