B.C.'s 'hardest escape room' located in New West closed for good

A popular escape experience located in New West, with one of its adventures advertised as the “hardest escape room” in B.C., has permanently closed.

Pandora’s Locks, located at 405 Columbia St., announced earlier this month that Sept. 13 would be its last day of operation.

“We are deeply grateful for your support, laughter, and shared memories,” a message on the website states.

A post on Pandora’s Locks’ Instagram page sheds more light on the closure.

“When we first opened our doors, our goal was simple: to offer a one-of-a-kind escape room experience, full of adventure, mystery and teamwork. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of hosting thousands of players into our immersive and story-driven worlds. From cracking codes and solving puzzles to discovering hidden secrets, it’s been an honour to be part of your journey,” the post said.

“As we close this chapter, we want to say a BIG THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for your support over the years in the community,” the business added.

Many responded to the post with their condolences.

“A sad day for B.C. escape room fans. Sending you and your whole staff lots of love,” one comment read.

Another fan of the New West escape room said, “Had an awesome birthday here. Sad to see you go!”

One of their escape rooms, “Murder at Sea,” was touted as the hardest escape room in B.C.

Some folks were also discussing the closure on the New West subreddit, with one Reddit user claiming to be the person who built it.

“I built it a decade ago and sold it early 2020,” they claimed.

“Not in the business anymore, but still follow the scene and am an enthusiast. Might consider designing a room (or something similar) in the future, but no interest in running another escape room business locally,” they added.

We’ve contacted the owners to learn more about what led to the closure.
