A historic storefront in New West that has been in operation for 70 years has been listed for sale at a price comparable to that of a high-end Vancouver mansion.
Located at 515 Columbia Street, Royal City Jewellers, also known as Royal City Pawn Shop, has been listed for sale for $9 million.
One thing we learned from RCJ is that the sale has one condition, which should please New West residents who have a fondness for this storefront. It also means that New West residents won’t have to worry about another dental office in the city.
Daily Hive Urbanized has learned from current staff that the condition is that the business must go with the property.

Royal City Jewellers offers everything from musical instruments to sporting goods to, you guessed it, jewellery. They also often offer sales and specials.
“Seize the chance to take over a highly profitable, turn-key pawn brokerage with nearly 65 years of success serving the Lower Mainland,” the listing says.
The building offers 8,022 sq ft of space, and the listing suggests that it’s Canada’s largest pawnbroker business, and it’s located right next to the New Westminster Police Department.
“This well-established business is located in the heart of downtown New Westminster, a thriving city at the center of Greater Vancouver’s growing metropolis,” the listing adds.

The listing also highlights specific offerings in the neighbourhood, stating that it has everything from cafes to boutiques, as well as access to the waterfront at the Quay and the SkyTrain, which is just minutes away. It states that it will ensure “constant foot traffic and visibility.”

It doesn’t highlight the proximity to Paramount Gentleman’s Club, another notable and historic New West property.
Daily Hive Urbanized popped by yesterday, and it had a good amount of customers inside.
In a time when some of Metro Vancouver’s retail history is being erased, New West residents can rest assured that this piece of history will remain intact for the foreseeable future, despite a potential new owner on the horizon.
