Canada and the US resume NAFTA negotiations today

Sep 11 2018, 10:26 pm

Chrystia Freeland, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, has confirmed to reporters that NAFTA talks are resuming on Tuesday morning.

At a press conference just over a week ago, Freeland explained that both sides were “continuing to work very hard,” noting that the current negotiations were “very complex.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs was firm in stating that no deal would be signed unless it would benefit both Canada and those living in it.

The New York Times reported earlier that negotiations would continue well into this week and a United States trade representative stated that a deal would be signed within 90 days – if Canada “was willing.”

More to come as this story develops.
