First look at "Miantiao" located in the Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver

Mar 3 2021, 7:20 pm

We’ve been patiently waiting to hear what will be taking over the Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver’s upscale third-floor restaurant, MARKET by Jean-Georges, and now Dished Vancouver is revealing the new concept.

The luxury downtown hotel and its new partner the Kitchen Table Group will be opening a new Italian-Chinese restaurant called Miantiao, which translates to noodle in Mandarin.

Miantiao will offer patrons a combination of the two cuisines. The restaurant describes itself as “Italian cuisine elevated with Chinese sensibilities, and Chinese gastronomy uplifted by the elegant simplicity of Italian cuisine.”

The inspiration behind this new eatery comes from the story of a Chinese-Italian couple living in Vancouver who are proud to share their respective cultures and the cuisine they were raised on.

Sounds intriguing, right?

For specific dishes, the concept, led by Kitchen Table’s Culinary Director Chef Alex Tung, has teased items like Pasta Fresca, a twist on the traditional Peking Duck, and fresh seafood features as well.

“This restaurant is about substance, honesty and an undeniable product,” says Tung. “The food offerings and menu will hold its own with any fine dining establishment in the country, but will feel approachable to all.”

Naturally, folks can expect a top-notch wine and cocktail program to accompany the elevated cuisine at Miantiao.

Signature concoctions will give a nod to both Italian and Chinese drinking traditions.

As you can see from the renderings, Miantiao’s interior will be a feast for the eyes as well.

The eatery will boast two dining rooms – the Friulian-inspired Frasca Room and the Jia Dining Room.

Miantiao will offer diners a bar, lounge, and new enclosed patio where they can enjoy a full menu and drinks. The new concept also has three private dining rooms for special events.

Miantiao is set to open to the public this spring, stay tuned for more details as they are released, and be sure to get a good look at these renderings to see what we’re in for.
