Metro Vancouver to get last blast of heat before fall rain hits

Fall is just around the corner, but the Metro Vancouver weather forecast for this week shows that summer isn’t quite done with us yet.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is forecasting that the region will experience a spike in temperature near the start of the new week.

Temperatures are expected to hover in the low 20s for Monday and Tuesday. But factoring in the humidex could mean that it may feel up to nearly 10 degrees hotter.

Vancouver temperatures are set to reach 22°C on Tuesday, and 26°C inland

However, when factoring in humidex, ECCC anticipates some inland areas will feel more like 31°C, with a UV index of six or higher.

According to ECCC, “humidex measures how hot we feel in hot, humid weather. It is a parameter intended for the general public to express how the combined effects of warm temperatures and humidity are perceived.”

The agency noted that it uses humidex when informing the general public that “conditions of heat and humidity are potentially uncomfortable.”

Those looking forward to cooler temperatures won’t have to wait long, as temperatures are expected to return to 20°C on Wednesday and Thursday, with weekend temperatures remaining in that range until Sunday.

Don’t put away the umbrellas just yet, as clouds and showers are expected to return over the weekend, with up to 60 per cent chance of precipitation on Saturday and Sunday.

Metro Vancouver residents may also want to brace for a fall that feels warmer than usual but with plenty of rain in the mix.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) released its seasonal Vancouver forecast last week, showing a solid chance of above-normal temperatures across much of Canada between September and November.

One factor influencing the outlook is unusually warm ocean temperatures in the northeast Pacific.

That extra warmth can fuel stronger storm systems, especially as the South Coast heads into its rainy season, ECCC told Daily Hive.
