The fallout from the Corus layoffs, which Daily Hive reported on last week, continues, and we’ve learned another well-known Vancouver personality was impacted.
Initially, we reported that 46 people had lost their jobs, primarily journalists in B.C. and Alberta.
Fiona Forbes, who was most recently employed as a producer and contributor to Global News’ The Morning Show, revealed on Monday morning that she has also lost her job.

Forbes has been a familiar face on local TV for years, dating back to when she hosted the entertainment show Urban Rush, which aired on Shaw cable. She also worked on Breakfast Television on CityTV and was the recipient of a Leo Award.
“As some of you may have heard, there was a devastating round of layoffs at Global last week, and I was one of those affected. It was a rude awakening to find out my position has been ‘eliminated’ 😔, but that’s the harsh reality of our business right now,” Forbes wrote on Instagram.
“This time I’ve been downsized and sadly, my position on The Morning Show is no longer,” she added.
Forbes added that she was proud of her team, which brought the program to number one, and celebrated her accomplishments.
“A big shoutout to all my (now former) coworkers still holding the fort — it’s been a slice.”
Many notable public figures have offered tributes in response, including Erin Ireland, who said that Global was lucky to have Forbes.
Sophie Lui, host of the Global News Hour at five and co-anchor at six, wrote, “Love you, Fi.”
Forbes has also often appeared as a guest on This is VANCOLOUR hosted by Mo Amir.
What Corus and Unifor said about the layoffs
Corus told Daily Hive that the job cuts amounted to “difficult but necessary changes to create a more sustainable future for the company and our News division.”
In response, Unifor had some damning words for Corus following the layoffs.
“The most recent Global News layoffs are a devastating blow to local news across the country and to our democracy,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne in an email to Daily Hive.
“We will support our members through this difficult and uncertain time.”
Unifor told Daily Hive that in addition to the 45 jobs lost in B.C. and Alberta, one job was cut in the Eastern region, and of the layoffs, 26 people were journalists.
Simon Little, another well-known B.C. digital journalist, was impacted by the layoffs.
It’s incredible I somehow made it 10 years in the news biz without being laid off but my luck ran out today. Sad to see a quality team torn apart. Spare a thought for your local journos who are ever being asked to do more with less, especially if you’re tempted to dunk on the MSM.
