Metro Vancouver could break more heat records before big weather change

Jun 22 2026, 5:20 pm

The weather forecast for the first official week of summer in Metro Vancouver is starting off hot, but things are about to drastically change.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is calling for temperatures to remain in the mid 20s from Monday, June 22, to Wednesday, June 24.

However, temperatures will climb up to 32°C inland on Monday and 31°C inland on Tuesday. And it will feel even hotter when factoring in the humidex.

The latest forecast indicates that Metro Vancouver temperatures could feel as high as 36°C on Monday and 35°C on Tuesday with the humidex, with a UV index of 7 and 6, or high, on the respective days.

The ECCC explained online that the humidex is a tool that combines the air temperature and relative humidity into a perceived temperature that illustrates how hot, humid weather can feel to an average person.

It added that a humidex reading can help people make informed decisions about outdoor activities and heat-related health risks before venturing outside.

“The record for inland highs can possibly be broken in the Fraser Valley on Monday,” ECCC meteorologist Jennifer Kowal explained to Daily Hive.

“The area has a historic high of 31.7°C. Today we are forecasting 32°C, so we’re looking at possible record-breaking heat.”

However, a big shift is expected to start rolling into the region by mid-week.

“Today and tomorrow will be the warmest days of the week, but it will be the last bit of the ridge of high pressure that we’ve had the last few days,” said Kowal.

“On Wednesday, an upper trough will start moving across the province, which could cause showers or thunder showers. By the weekend, a system is coming in from the Pacific, changing things to a cooler, wetter air mass. So we will see a couple of days of rain.”

Daytime highs are forecast to drop to a low of only 17°C on Friday and Saturday, with showers and rain to start the weekend.
