Metro Vancouver Transit Police had some fun on social media at the expense of someone who tried to escape from police in Mario Kart-style.
According to the transit police, the driver of a go-kart, who had outstanding warrants, attempted to flee from police at “an incredibly low speed.”
His vehicle was apparently going so slowly that his wheels got stuck in gravel, and the driver of the go-kart was arrested. Transit police said his go-kart was homemade.
Transit police, having some fun with the incident, said he was arrested “before any red shells or banana peels had to be deployed.”
Folks in the comments section were trying just as hard as the Metro Vancouver Transit Police.
“You’re lucky he didn’t get a Starman or mushroom powerups, or he could’ve gotten away,” someone commented.

Another person wondered, “Was his name Mario or Luigi by any chance?”
Someone actually called out the transit police, saying, “I’d be embarrassed if I was advertising this as a cop. Go do some real work.”
There’s a legal way to play Mario Kart in Vancouver. In 2023, it was revealed that Vancouver was getting its own Mario Kart track in the mobile version of the game.
A video trailer featured on the Nintendo of America YouTube page shows the Vancouver course in action as part of a Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 on the Nintendo Switch. The Vancouver track was actually previously featured in another Mario Kart game, Mario Kart Tour, which is only available to play on mobile devices.
