Metro Vancouver’s busy street festival season continues this weekend, and residents and commuters alike are being warned of road closures across the region.
Several large community celebrations are planned in Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver, so you’ll want to give yourself extra time to arrive at your destinations.
Kicking things off on Saturday, June 7, is Hats Off Day on Hastings Street between Gamma Avenue and Boundary Road.
The long-running free Burnaby festival — which is called Hats Off Day because it’s a day for local businesses to “take their hats off” to their community – features live performances, kid-friendly activities, and delicious food.
Several major streets in Burnaby Heights will be closed or restricted starting the morning of the major event.

Organized by the Burnaby Heights Merchants Association, as well as the Hats Off committee and the Burnaby Heights community, the 12-block event is expected to draw up to 50,000 visitors to the area from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Organizers shared that Hastings Street from Boundary to Gamma Avenue will be closed on Saturday, June 1, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Several roads in the area will also enforce no stopping and no parking restrictions throughout the day.
The fourth-annual Car Free Day Surrey, hosted by the Newton Business Improvement Association, is also happening on Saturday, June 7, along 137th Street.
The day-long event will feature live entertainment, family-friendly activities, food vendors, and more. Road closures will be in effect on 137th Street between 72A Avenue and 74th Avenue for the festival that runs from noon to 8 p.m.

Visitors will find lots to see and do during the free street party, including the new acoustic stage with soulful performances by Glisha, high-energy folk by Pat Chessell, and more. You can also stop by the DJ and Dance Stage for dance battles and live sets by DJ Seko, Street Kings Dance, Charlie PS, Good Goin’, and DJ A-Slam.
Bring the young ones to check out the expanded Family Zone, which features a free climbing wall, bounce house, roving characters, face painting, and interactive performances for all ages.
On Sunday, it’s Vancouver’s turn to party in the streets when Italian Day takes over Commercial Drive on June 8.
Thousands of Vancouverites will take over The Drive as it transforms into a 14-block car-free zone. There will be plenty of merchants, food vendors, and entertainment to discover from 12 to 8 p.m.

Italian Day
Road closures for Italian Day are expected to start early on Sunday morning, with Commercial Drive closed to all vehicle traffic until late in the evening.
Parking will be very limited in the area, so it is recommended that you walk, cycle or take transit to the festivities this year.
