Busy Metro Vancouver Highway 1 exit has fully closed for summer repairs

Metro Vancouver Highway 1 drivers should take note of a summer exit closure that may impact their daily commute.
According to Drive BC, paving operations are planned at Exit 33 (Kensington Avenue in Burnaby) starting Wednesday, July 2, until Sunday, Aug. 31.
The closure impacts the westbound Kensington Avenue offramp, which will be fully closed 24/7, and seven days a week, as well as one northbound lane on Kensington Avenue. This is part of a Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) project.
The City of Burnaby said the repairs “will address pavement settlement issues that have resulted in bumpy conditions for motorists.”

During the closures, drivers can take Gaglardi Way or Willingdon Avenue for north/south travel off Highway 1 westbound as detour routes.
This isn’t the only summer road closure in Burnaby that motorists should be aware of.
The City of Burnaby states that eastbound Deer Lake Avenue, between Deer Lake Parkway and Sperling Avenue, will be closed on the days of the Deer Lake Summer Concert series. Concerts kick off on Aug. 15 and go on until Sept. 8.
Expect the following traffic changes:
- After 4 p.m.: limited and authorized access only, westbound only
- After 9 p.m.: full road closure on Deer Lake Avenue
Traffic control personnel will be on-site on concert days to assist drivers and pedestrians.
