Concert season is back in Burnaby, and with it comes temporary road closures around Deer Lake Park – so if you’re heading to a show or just passing through, you’ll want to plan ahead.
A series of closures will be in place throughout the summer to support large-scale events happening at the popular outdoor venue.
Where the road closures will happen
The City of Burnaby says eastbound Deer Lake Avenue between Deer Lake Parkway and Sperling Avenue will be closed on concert days. Concerts kick off on Aug. 15 and go on until Sept. 8.
Expect the following traffic changes:
- After 4 p.m.: limited and authorized access only, westbound only
- After 9 p.m.: full road closure on Deer Lake Avenue
Traffic control personnel will be on-site to assist drivers and pedestrians.

According to Live Nation and the venue’s upcoming schedule, the big-name shows include:
- Above & Beyond: Bigger Than All of Us North America: Friday, Aug. 15
- Mt. Joy: Tuesday, Aug. 19
- Neil Young: Saturday, Sept. 6 and Monday, Sept. 8
If you’re planning to take Highway 1 westbound, there’s another detour to keep in mind. The Kensington Avenue off-ramp is closed for pavement repairs from July through August. This is part of a Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) project. Commuters are advised to take Gaglardi Way or Willingdon Avenue exits instead.
Plan ahead, give yourself extra travel time, and follow posted signage. Whether you’re catching your favourite band or just trying to get across town, it’s best to stay updated on the changes and avoid the area if you’re not attending the event.
