Highway 1 entrance closure could impact Metro Vancouver drivers this week

Metro Vancouver drivers know that traffic around the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge can be hectic at the best of times, and those driving onto Highway 1 this week should brace for detours as the summer of roadwork continues.
Commuters are being warned that the Main Street eastbound on-ramp to Highway 1 at the bridge will be closed overnight for paving from Wednesday, July 23, to Friday, July 25, 2025.
A portion of Main Street eastbound will also close for resurfacing nightly from Saturday, July 26, to Tuesday, July 29.

“While the closures are in effect, travellers should expect some delays, with the potential for heavy traffic during peak hours and during planned events along Main Street near the construction zone,” announced the Ministry of Transportation and Transit in a release.
“Due to anticipated traffic, drivers are encouraged to plan alternative routes or avoid the area during construction windows, when possible.”
The eastbound on-ramp closures will be in place nightly from Wednesday to Friday this week from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Vehicles headed for Highway 1 will be rerouted to use the Dollarton Highway on-ramp during the closures.
Main Street eastbound will also close between Harbour Avenue and Mountain Highway from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., from Saturday to Wednesday. Vehicles heading eastbound on Main Street will be redirected north on Mountain Highway, then detoured to Keith Road eastbound.
This is one of several Highway 1 disruptions affecting Metro Vancouver drivers this summer.

In Burnaby, a separate closure at Exit 33 (Kensington Avenue) is currently in place until Aug. 31, as crews address pavement settlement issues that have created bumpy road conditions.
The BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit also announced that the north side on-ramp to Highway 1 westbound from East 1st Avenue will be closed until Aug. 4.
It’s the third time in recent weeks that this offramp has shut down to allow City of Vancouver crews to carry out sewer-upgrade work along East 1st Avenue.
