Mountain Equipment Co-op members are organizing a town hall next week to discuss next steps now that the outdoor retailer’s sale to a US private equity firm has been approved by a BC court.

On Monday, October 5 at 5 pm Pacific Time, MEC members across the country who are disappointed with the sale that will turn the co-op into a private company will discuss what they can do next.

“Organizers of the #SaveMEC campaign will host a webcast where we will discuss the fate and future of MEC and member-owned co-operatives in Canada,” the event’s description reads.

The Save MEC campaign has already tried petitioning the store’s board of governor’s to stop the sale, and gathering donations to save the company.

MEC announced the sale last month after its faltering finances were made worse by the coronavirus pandemic.
