A man with autism has suffered serious injuries following an attack in downtown Vancouver.

In a release, Vancouver Police say the man was transported to hospital and required surgery for a fractured hip after he was discovered in a lane downtown.

Investigators canvassed the area for surveillance footage and “found a clear image of the suspect believed to be responsible for the serious assault.”

The image was then distributed to officers in the city, and a heads-up officer from the VPD’s Neighbourhood Response Team recognized the suspect.

The suspect was later located and arrested.

Police say the victim remains in hospital.
