Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers in Coquitlam are investigating after an early morning shooting injured one person.

In a release, the RCMP said officers were called just after 1 am on January 10 for reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Kingston Street.

Upon arrival, officers found one man who had been shot. He was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

According to the release, multiple suspects were seen fleeing the area in a vehicle. Not long after, officers found a car on fire in the 3500 block of Gislason Avenue, about a kilometre and a half away.

Police believe that the two incidents are connected.

The release notes that it’s currently “unclear” whether the case is connected to the Lower Mainland Gang conflict. Police said they are in the process of gathering evidence in order to “further the investigation and identify those involved.”

This is the third shooting in the area in just a few days.

On January 7, a man was shot and killed in a Richmond park. Two days later, a man in his 20s died after being shot “multiple” times in the city.

Coquitlam RCMP are asking anyone with information, dash cam video, or CCTV footage of the are to contact them at 604-945-1550, and quote file 2021-820.
