One man is in hospital and police are investigating after a shooting in Burnaby early this morning.

According to Burnaby RCMP, officers were called to the 5500 block of Patterson Avenue around 5:10 am on Thursday for a report of a home invasion.

Upon their arrival at the scene, they discovered the 31-year-old victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was taken to hospital with what police describe as minor injuries. At this time, it appears the incident was targeted, according to police.

“The victim is known to police and police are continuing to work with the victim on getting a description of the suspect,” said Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj. “While it is still early in the investigation, it appears that this was not a random act.”

Kalanj said police are “working hard to identify the suspect in this investigation and we’re asking anyone who may have information that they think could assist in our investigation to contact us.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have information to offer that could help further the investigation, is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999. Those who wish to leave an anonymous tip can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Additionally, anyone who was driving in the area of Patterson Avenue and Bond Street this morning between 4:45 am and 5:30 am and has dashcam video is asked to call police.
