33-year-old man hospitalized after South Vancouver shooting

A Vancouver resident is in the hospital after an evening shooting that occurred on Wednesday evening.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) received reports of a shooting and were called to the scene of East 53rd Avenue and Sophia Street, just before 9:45 pm.

According to a statement from police, officers located the injured 33-year-old male and provided medical assistance until first responders arrived. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains with “non-life threatening injuries.”

Police are continuing to gather evidence and at this point in time, there’s no perceived risk to the public.

“Our officers are continuing to investigate and gather information,” says Sergeant Aaron Roed in a statement. “This incident appears to be targeted and we don’t believe there is any threat to public safety.”
