A man who was arrested by police last year on reports of him exposing himself and masturbating in front of young women and teens in Vancouver has now pleaded guilty to five counts of committing an indecent act in public, in connection with the cases.

On Friday, a BC Prosecution Service spokesperson confirmed to Daily Hive that Trevor John Kurjata, 29, entered the plea, and the court accepted pleas to two indecent act charges as lesser included offences to the two exposure charges.

Kurjata received a conditional discharge and was placed on probation for three years.

The investigation began in early-July 2018, after police received a series of reports of a man driving a pick-up truck who would approach teenage girls and young women.

“He would pull up beside them and attempt to engage them in conversation, drawing their attention to the inside of the vehicle where he was masturbating,” said police in a statement at the time. “After seeing their reaction, the suspect would then drive away.”

Kurjata was arrested on July 18, 2018, when he was apprehended after a similar incident near MacDonald Street and West 17th Avenue.

He was charged with five counts of committing an indecent act in a public place and one count of exposing genitals to a person under the age of 16.

After an analysis of a seized cellphone, investigators found 30 additional incidents recorded throughout Vancouver involving over 60 unidentified teens and young women.
