A Vancouver man is in custody after reportedly evading a traffic stop on Tuesday morning.

According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the incident took place just after 2 am. Police officers noticed a “suspicious vehicle” around the area of 39th Avenue and Cambie Street.

The car was believed to be related to a number of break-and-enters in the area. An email from the VPD says that when police initiated a traffic stop using lights and sirens, “the vehicle took off.”

The suspect in question reportedly hit several other police cars before being taken into custody at 51st Avenue and Main Street.

The driver, a 38-year-old, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and there are no serious injuries to police officers.

VPD Investigators are currently looking into the incident. Tania Visintin, the department’s Media Relations Officer, tells Daily Hive that “charges in relation to dangerous driving and possession of stolen property are anticipated.”
