A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged after two sexual assaults that occurred in South Vancouver earlier this month.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says that Daniel Ghoukassian was arrested last week and was charged by Crown counsel on Saturday. Police reached out to the public after two reported assaults that occurred within days of each other.

On October 16, a male suspect allegedly approached a woman from behind and groped her. That same suspect did the same thing to a different victim on October 19. During each incident, the suspect reportedly fled before the police arrived at the scene.

“The response from the public has been phenomenal,” says Constable Tania Visintin, spokesperson for the VPD. “Investigators would like to thank everyone who called the tip line to help identify the suspect in such a disturbing file.”

Ghoukassian was charged with one count of sexual assault in relation to the incident on October 19. The first incident continues to be under investigation. Police add that the 32-year-old has a history of sexual attacks.

“Ghoukassian was the suspect in three violent sexual attacks on a stranger in the Oakridge area,” says VPD. “He was charged and convicted for those offences and is a registered sexual offender.”

The suspect remains in custody until his next court appearance.
