The BC-based retailer announced today its new store at 4588 Dunbar Street – within the ground level of the Dunbar Terrace mixed-use development – will open at 9 am, after a grand opening celebrations that begin at 8:45 am, where attendees will include Vancouver city councillors Melissa De Genova, Rebecca Bligh, Lisa Dominato, and Pete Fry.

The first 100 customers at the grand opening will receive an Oster My Blend Personal Blender.

As well, fresh off his team’s championship win, NBA Toronto Raptors shooting guard Danny Green will be present for an autograph signing and meet-and-greet. Wristbands for the meet-and-greet will be distributed to customers on-location starting at 10 am, with the meet-and-greet event running from 1 pm to 2 pm.

With a floor area of 14,000 sq. ft., this London Drugs location will be significantly smaller than the retailer’s average store size – even smaller than the 17,000-sq-ft location at Olympic Village.

For this reason, the store has a “carefully curated shopping experience in every department,” which includes computer, audio visual, photo electronics, photolab, cosmetics, general merchandise, and extensive unique food and beverage options.

The store is also integrated with the adjacent to the new Highroads Medical Clinic, providing patients and customers with a one-stop source for their pharmacy and medical services.

“Our success and longevity has not been about selling things – as a company we don’t believe in ‘selling’ customers. It’s about taking care of them,” said Clint Mahlman, president and Chief Operating Officer of London Drugs, in a statement.

“And we know that care extends beyond our customers and into the communities we serve as well.”

The opening of the chain’s new location in Dunbar, he furthered, “is another step in our journey to make it easier for our customers to get what they need and the care they trust.”

This is London Drugs’ 83rd store location, and one of two new stores it will be opening in the city this year. Later this summer, the retailer is also expected to open a major store location within Westbank’s new Vancouver House redevelopment on the north end of the Granville Street Bridge in downtown Vancouver.

Over the longer term, the retailer also has plans to open a second store in the Kitsilano neighbourhood, at the northwest corner of the intersection of West 4th Avenue and Macdonald Street.
