Decade-old Metro Vancouver restaurant to remain open after its initial closure announcement
It’s an unfortunately common occurrence lately to see long-standing restaurants announce that they are closing their doors. However, it’s pretty rare for one to announce a closure and then later reveal that they are remaining open after all. This is currently the case for Legend House Chinese Restaurant.
Legend House, located just steps away from Coquitlam Centre and first opened in August 2014, is best known for its Szechuan cuisine and Northern Chinese-style dim sum, specifically its xiao long bao (a.k.a. soup dumplings).
On Aug. 19, the restaurant took to Facebook to announce that it would be closing its doors for good.
“With heartfelt gratitude, we sincerely thank you for your trust and support over the years. Your companionship has been the greatest encouragement to us on this journey,” wrote the restaurant. “We would like to inform you that our restaurant will officially close by Aug. 31, 2025. While this chapter comes to an end, the wonderful memories and friendships we have shared with you will remain forever in our hearts.”

Then, on Aug. 31, the restaurant shared the news that it would remain open for one more week. Now, as of Sept. 9, the restaurant revealed it isn’t going anywhere after all.
“Was involved in a very difficult situation with the restaurant sale in [the] last couple weeks,” wrote Legend House. “Due to some unexpected circumstances, the buyer stepped away. We will continue to run the restaurant as usual.”
The restaurant also shared that it was fortunate to have the same team return and that it hoped everyone still loved them.
Legend House is currently open daily from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Be sure to keep an eye on its Facebook page for any updates on hours.
