Black Eyed Peas stars coming to FREE Filipino block party in Vancouver this weekend

Street festival season is upon us and some major stars are coming to perform at a huge one this weekend in Vancouver.
The second annual Lapu Lapu Day Block Party, presented by Filipino BC and Sunset on Fraser, is coming to the historic South Vancouver neighbourhood on Saturday, April 26.
This year’s event is free and open to all, with a street parade, artisan vendors, cultural activities, a giant basketball tournament, and lots of great food. There will also be a MYX Mainstage concert by donation, headlined by members of the six-time Grammy-winning Black Eyed Peas.

The second-annual festival is presented in partnership with Hogan’s Alley Society and will highlight the shared histories and cultural contributions of both communities by placing a strong emphasis on showcasing Black and Filipino artists.
Apl.de.Ap and J Rey of the Black Eyed Peas will take the stage alongside artists like Talilo, Swiggle Mandela, Wavy Fay, Sade Awele, Kaya Ko, and Nikkaela. Fans can pre-donate in advance of the block party to reserve their concert tickets and ensure early access to the MYX mainstage concert.
There will also be a featured drag showcase starring RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 star Aura Mayari, Batty Banks, Margaux Rita, and Diamonté.

Make sure to check out the Lapu Lapu Stage, filled with local Filipino talent, and the Palangke Stage, which will spotlight cultural and contemporary dance.
Lapu-Lapu Day, which commemorates a fearless Indigenous Visayan Chieftain from Mactan, Philippines, will also have a variety of local food vendors and trucks on-site in the market. Dig into eats from Goldilocks and Kimshaker Resto, shop for vintage looks from Granville Flea, and more.
“The Block Party is about celebrating our roots while building community,” said Kristina Corpin-Moser, project director of Filipino BC, in a release. “It’s a chance for people to come together, share food, and enjoy music while honouring an important figure in our history.”
