RCMP and the BC Coroners Service said they are investigating a rollover collision that claimed a life along Highway 1 near Langley, early on Monday morning.

According to police, the incident happened round 2:30 am, when officers received a report of a single vehicle rollover collision along the stretch of highway near 264 Street.

“Preliminary findings at the scene suggest that the silver Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck had been travelling in the westbound lanes when it veered off the roadway and into the ditch where it struck multiple trees before coming to final rest,” police said in a release. “Emergency crews were required to extricate a woman who was trapped inside the wreckage.”

The woman, along with a male occupant of the vehicle were rushed to hospital where they remain in “critical” condition police said.  A third occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is also investigating the man’s sudden death.

“Investigators are now working to positively identify the deceased,” said RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Once he has been identified, our priority will be to properly notify the man’s family.”

Police said the investigation remains ongoing at this time and is being led by RCMP Fraser Valley Traffic Services, with the RCMP Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (ICARS) being called upon to “fully examine” the crash scene.

As part of their investigation, police are also seeking witnesses to the collision, or events leading up to the collision. Anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact them at 250-702-4039.
