California senator and former Montreal high-schooler Kamala Harris has been chosen as Joe Biden’s running mate in the upcoming 2020 presidential election.

The 55-year-old Californian senator becomes the first Black and South Asian woman on a major presidential ticket in US history.

Harris announced her own run for the White House in January, before ending it in the spring of 2020 and endorsing Biden.

Harris lived in Quebec during the 1970s and 80s while attending Westmount High School. During that time, her mother, Shyamala, was a teacher at McGill University.
