Canadian music icon and Hollywood legend spotted dining at B.C. resort

B.C. has been a hotbed of celebrity sightings lately, and we can now add an 11-time Grammy winner and an Oscar-winning director to the list.
Ruby Lake Resort on the Sunshine Coast shared a photo of Canadian music icon Joni Mitchell and Almost Famous writer and director Cameron Crowe.
The resort wrote on social media that Mitchell and Crowe’s appearance was an “unexpected and beautiful surprise.”

“Last night at Ruby Lake Resort was one of those truly unforgettable evenings where somehow everything aligned,” wrote the resort.
“Joni Mitchell arrived with Cameron Crowe from Los Angeles, and what unfolded was the kind of evening you simply cannot plan.”
The celebrity guests dined at La Trattoria Italiana, a family-run Italian restaurant at the Madeira Park, B.C., resort.
La Trattoria Italiana describes its menu as authentic Italian food with a West Coast influence, and is run by the Cosgrassi Family, who also operate Ruby Lake.

“My brother Aldo and Paolo created a special dinner for all of us,” added the resort in a post on Facebook. “Fresh burrata, prawns, bruschetta on homemade focaccia, wild sockeye salmon, gnocchi… honest, soulful Italian food made with love.
“Around the table were Joni, her nurse, my mother, Brigit, Paolo, Aldo, and our dear Tanya, who, as always, delivered such superb care and service, making the whole evening flow so effortlessly.”

Mitchell is a Canadian Music Hall of Fame and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee behind hits like “Big Yellow Taxi” and “Help Me.” She is consistently ranked among the best songwriters of all time.
She also received the Gold Medal from the Royal Canadian Geographical Society for extraordinary contributions to Canadian and international culture. The ceremony was held at Ruby Lake Resort last summer.

Crowe is a BAFTA and Grammy winner behind hit films like Jerry Maguire, Vanilla Sky, and We Bought a Zoo. He also received a Tony Award nomination for his work on the Broadway adaptation of Almost Famous.
Fans of Ruby Lake Resort shared their excitement at the two huge celebrity guests at the Sunshine Coast destination.
“Two of my favourite creatives in one of my favourite restaurants. Man, to have been a fly on that wall,” said one commenter.
“Look at Joni’s smile,” added another. “Our beloved Canadian treasure.”
Michell has stopped by Ruby Lake Resort on several occasions in the past, becoming friends with the operators.
“The atmosphere felt so natural, so real, so beautifully grounded. Probably the complete opposite of a typical Beverly Hills evening, which somehow made it even more special,” the resort added.
“No pretense. Just wonderful people, nature showing off, laughter, stories, and one of those rare nights where everything simply aligned.”
